South Asian Bride Magazine + Tutorial - Irene Khan
I've been a huge fan and follower of South Asian Bride Magazine since my very early 20s - before Instagram & before I was even close to being a bride. What sparked my interest? The photography. As I was dipping my toes in the industry as a budding photographer I would flip through SAB's huge glossy pages in awe, the quality of the collective work in their issues were always immaculate.. [real, working] fashion models, luxury designers, and top notch photographers. It's hard to find Desi magazines that do it right, where they can actually sit amongst the Vogues & Harper's Bazaars of the industry - SAB is it! And the fact that it's an American publication is a huge deal. The South Asian entertainment industry in America is, generally speaking, non-existent; unlike the UK where excellence in our community is not only acknowledged but celebrated with events like the Asian Awards. My hope as we grow in numbers and continue venturing out of our boxes is that we become a true community, one that supports and celebrates one other. I'll get off my soapbox in a moment haha but this is something I've always been passionate about. I always use the Latino community as an example - i love the way that they grow as a cohesive unit - The Alma Awards, Latin Grammys, Latin Billboards, Cosmo for Latinas, Etc would not exist without the support. Support = growth! & growth = quality media! [/end monologue] When South Asian Bride Magazine reached out earlier this summer to feature me in a special edition issue amongst some pretty amazing women, I was beyond honored and excited! Their special Beauty & Fashion edition hit the shelves today, and you guys have to check it out - not just for the beautiful bloggers but the fashion spreads are just to die for! My gf Tamanna gorgeously graced the cover and I'm so excited to share the feature with super-sweetie, Farah Dhukai, who has become one of my dearest friends! I loved reading about Sharifa, Megha, & Uma who I don't know too personally yet but hopefully that'll change soon! Congrats ladies!!
