Doha Travel Diary | Qatar

Last month as I was closing out a long Eurotrip, I found myself with a 2 hour layover in Doha. With my in-laws living a short plane ride away, I suggested that they visit me for some long overdue quality time…. & my 2 hour layover became nearly a week haha! My wheels are always turning and I’m always ready to seize the moment! My father in law is a big foodie so with recommendations from family and friends in tow, we spent most of our time restaurant hopping without a single complaint from me! The food in Doha was so good everywhere we went. We started off at an Iraqi restaurant and over our few days we consumed so much more; fish & chips, Pakistani food (& a halwa puri brunch one day, yum!), Egyptian, traditional Qatari, & I don’t even remember what else! It was a blur of amazing food! We got in a little bit of sight seeing as well but not as much as I would have liked because the days were so hot so we wouldn’t really begin our outings until 4 or 5 pm. Our main outings were Souq WaqifMuseum of Islamic Art, shopping at the mall (duh! The Middle East loves malls!), & dune bashing in the Arabian Desert with Qatar Inbound Tours. I don’t recommend the last with your parents if they’re not the adventurous type lol! Trust me when I say that my mother in law was f r e a k i n g  o u t! I’ve dune bashed before in Dubai, so I should have known but my father in law really enjoyed himself – we would have stayed longer if we could have!

Enjoy all the photos, I’ll chat about all the places as we go! Starting with Souq Waqif..

I’ve been to a few souqs in the Middle East but I think this was the most charming! Such a cute recreation of what I would believe to be a traditional souq with mud & stone like buildings. You could get lost here all day, endless shops selling everything you could imagine, amazing restaurants and shisha cafes, the list goes on.

As much as I enjoy museums, I’m not the type to spend more than a couple hours at one but I thoroughly enjoyed the Museum of Islamic Art! It’s located right on the corniche with amazing views of the downtown skyline and not only was this an great place to beat the heat.. the exhibits were so wonderful! So many beautiful and intricate pieces from all over the ancient world and there was even a Muhammad Ali exhibit! We stayed practically the whole day and didn’t even realize how much time had passed.

& off on our day tour with Qatar Inbound Tours! We started off at a little Bedouin Camp of sorts where we enjoyed tea, dates, and camel rides (30 QAR for rides). The drivers deflated their tires while we relaxed here for a bit and we were off! We drove up and down incredible pillowy dunes, the sand was seriously so beautiful and pristine. We stopped every now and then for photos but our final destination was the Inland Sea (Khor ul Udeid) which separates Qatar and Saudi Arabia!
