Babymoon Travel Diary | Bora Bora, French Polynesia

The end of an era

Celebrating every milestone to the fullest is becoming more of a norm than a novelty these days. Me, being the perpetually extra person that I am, have absolutely no complaints about this new age of gender reveals, babymoons, and push presents! Waseem and I have traveled quite a bit since getting married four years ago but a dream babymoon was something I just had to have IRL. The era of just us was coming to an end and we needed one last hurrah before two became three.

Bora Bora has been on my bucketlist for years and I had my heart absolutely set on it being our babymoon destination – I refused to even think of a back-up. When I know what I want, I just have to have it! I wanted a relaxing, exotic, & obviously Zika-free vacation and I wanted to stay in an over-water bungalow. This pretty much narrowed it down to French Polynesia. At first thought, French Polynesia sounds worlds away like the Maldives but for us west-coasters it’s such a unexpectedly easy destination! Our direct flight from LA to Tahiti was only 8 hours and then we had a short transit to Bora Bora. I traveled pretty frequently pre-baby so 8 hours is nothing compared to some of the long hauls I’ve been on! 8 hours is a couple movies and a nap lol its literally like traveling from NY to London but without the jetlag! French Polynesia is only 3 hours behind LA (same time zone as Hawaii!!) so this really allowed us to maximize our mornings (I’m not a morning person usually!). With sunset being pretty early in Bora Bora, we didn’t feel like we were wasting our trip by going to bed “early” either! We pretty much binge watched Jane the Virgin as I planned our baby shower every night haha and were up around sunrise to seize the day!

Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora

There are only 12 resorts in Bora Bora and a few other small-scale lodgings, with the cream of the crop being the Four Seasons – duh! I’ve stayed at several Four Seasons properties all around the world and was excited to get the FS experience in Bora Bora which did not disappoint. Upon landing at Bora Bora Airport we were welcomed by Four Seasons’ staff and they adorned us with beautiful, fragrant flower leis while we waited for our bags… and we were off to the resort! Our private transfer on their super stylish vintage looking boat (check my insta-story below!) was extra extra private as we were the only FS guests arriving at that time 🙂

The experience starts immediately from there, we were given drinks and cool towels to freshen up as we cruised the most gorgeous turquoise water to the resort. Our flight from Tahiti was pretty early so our room wasn’t ready upon arrival but there were plenty of facilities for us to freshen up in and we were able to catch our breakfast buffet before starting our day! I am not a breakfast person at all but really loved their buffet which also had made to order omelets and crepes. We took a dip in the lagoon after breakfast and our room was ready before we knew it! Like most resorts, there were golf carts ready to shuttle us around and I loved that we never had to wait long for one after calling. I was 31 weeks pregnant so walking definitely wasn’t on the agenda especially in that heat lol! Speaking of being pregnant.. everyone was extra nice and pampering with me, always making sure I was comfortable, hydrated, and they even had a pregnancy pillow waiting for me in our room – so beyond thoughtful! Everyone remembered us by name everywhere we went, from the lobby to any of the four restaurants — details like this always leave a lasting warm impression for me. We ate at all of the restaurants and ordered room service a few times.. everything was so yummy! I was a little nervous about the food since we’d essentially be stuck at the resort, but luckily everything was a win! You have to grab a bite or drinks at Sunset Bar during sunset (duh!), the view is beyond stunning!! You’ll catch it in my insta-story below.

We stayed in a one-bedroom beach view overwater bungalow and it was simply amazing. I really wanted a mountain-view suite but they were at capacity and my dates weren’t flexible womp womp.. but I can’t imagine any view in Bora Bora is a bad one! Our deck was private so I was able to comfortably lay out and Waseem loved jumping off into the lagoon every morning! Every section of our suite had french doors opening to our deck giving us the most stunning views – from the living room, tub, and bedroom! The deck was ready for us with two lounge chairs, a dining table + chairs, and a chest filled with life jackets and snorkeling equipment. The resort offers tons of activities and off-property excursions but being as heavily pregnant as I was, we maximized our time at our own pace on the beach, snorkeling in the lagoon, & hanging out in our bungalow. The most amazing thing about these over-water bungalows is that you literally don’t have to leave. It was an experience like no other and I’m already dying to visit again – with baby Iya this time!

Thank you Four Seasons Bora Bora for hosting us and making sure we had the babymoon of our dreams! xo

As I mentioned earlier, below is my insta-story from our trip! 🙂 I was way too pregnant to vlog (I’m pretty impressed with myself for even getting photos!), so I tried to save whatever I could from my story… hopefully I didn’t lose much and its still in order! Better than nothing! xo
